Erstmalig fand die Jahrestagung unserer Gesellschaft in Cottbus statt. Für die neu im Kongressjahr 2024 neu gegründete staatliche Medizinische Universität Lausitz – Carl Thiem war es ein weiteres kleines „Geburtstagsgeschenk“.
Erstmalig haben wir unsere Jahrestagung gemeinsam mit einer ausländischen Gesellschaft begangen, mit der Nepalesischen Gesellschaft für Plastische und Wiederherstellungschirurgie.
Seit 2020 besteht eine Klinikpartnerschaft zwischen der Medizinischen Universität Lausitz – Carl Thiem, ehemals Carl-Thiem-Klinikum Cottbus und dem Nepal Cleft and Burn Center im Kirtipur-Krankenhaus in Kathmandu.
Grundlage der Partnerschaft ist das von der GIZ (Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit) initiierte Förderprogramm „Klinikpartnerschaften“. Das Programm „Partner stärken Gesundheit“ fördert Kooperationen zwischen deutschen Kliniken, Universitäten, Hochschulen und Nichtregierungsorganisationen und solchen in Partnerländern. Klinikpartner*innen sind weltweit in allen medizinischen Fachbereichen aktiv. Das Förderprogramm wird von der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) inhaltlich und organisatorisch begleitet. Das Programm ist durch das Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) beauftragt und finanziert sowie kofinanziert durch die Else Körner-Fresenius-Stiftung (EKFS). Das Förderprogramm zielt darauf ab, durch langfristig angelegte, nachhaltige Partnerschaften zur Stärkung von Gesundheitssystemen beizutragen. Die Partnerschaften zahlen ein auf die Ziele für Nachhaltige Entwicklung der Vereinten Nationen, speziell hier das Ziel Nr. 3 „Wohlergehen und Gesundheit für alle“ und das Ziel Nr. 17 „Aufbau und Nachhalten von Partnerschaften“. Klinikpartner*innen sind durch das Programm in zahlreiche fachliche und regionale Netzwerk- und Austauschformate eingebettet. Sie können dadurch ihre Kompetenzen zu Internationaler Zusammenarbeit und gemeinsamen Lernen vertiefen. Das GIZ-Team berät sie in den Feldern Projektmanagement, Kommunikation und Administration.
Die in unserer nepalesisch-deutschen Klinikpartnerschaft gelebte Interdisziplinarität entspricht vollends dem Selbstverständnis unserer DGPW.
Der Fokus unserer Jahrestagung lag in Abstimmung mit unseren nepalesischen Partnern auf humanitärer Medizin und medizinischen Partnerschaften in Klinik, Lehre und Wissenschaft. Unsere nepalesischen Kolleg:innen wurde als Ehrenmitglieder in unsere DGPW aufgenommen. Vor uns nach dem Kongress hospitieren Sie an unseren Partnerkliniken: Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Klinikum St. Georg in Leipzig, Unfallkrankenhaus Berlin und Klinik für Handchirurgie (Rhön-Klinikum) in Bad Neustadt an der Saale.
Wir freuen uns auf unsere neue, langfristig und nachhaltig ausgerichtete Partnerschaft mit der Nepalesischen Gesellschaft!

For the first time, the annual meeting of our society was held in Cottbus. For the newly established state Medical University Lausitz – Carl Thiem in the congress year 2024, it was an additional "birthday gift."
For the first time, we hosted our annual meeting in collaboration with a foreign society, the Nepalese Society for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
Since 2020, a hospital partnership has existed between the Medical University Lausitz – Carl Thiem (formerly Carl Thiem Hospital Cottbus) and the Nepal Cleft and Burn Center at Kirtipur Hospital in Kathmandu.
This partnership is based on the program “Hospital Partnerships” initiated by GIZ (German Corporation for International Cooperation). The “Partners Strengthen Health” program promotes cooperation between German hospitals, universities, and non-governmental organizations and those in partner countries. Hospital partners are active worldwide in all medical fields.
The program is coordinated and supported by the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ) and is commissioned and financed by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and co-financed by the Else Körner-Fresenius Foundation (EKFS). The program aims at strengthening health systems through long-term, sustainable partnerships. These partnerships support the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal No. 3, “Good Health and Well-Being for All,” and Goal No. 17, “Partnerships for the Goals.”
Through this program, hospital partners are embedded in numerous technical and regional networking and exchange formats, allowing them to deepen their competencies in international cooperation and shared learning. The GIZ team advises partners in the areas of project management, communication, and administration.
The interdisciplinarity embodied in our Nepalese-German hospital partnership fully aligns with the ethos of our DGPW (German Society for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery).
The focus of our annual meeting, in coordination with our Nepalese partners, was on humanitarian medicine and medical partnerships in clinical practice, education, and research. Our Nepalese colleagues were inducted as honorary members of our DGPW. After the congress, they are participating in observational visits at our partner hospitals: Charité – University Medicine Berlin, St. Georg Hospital in Leipzig, Trauma Center Berlin, and the Center for Hand Surgery (Rhön-Klinikum) in Bad Neustadt an der Saale.
We are delighted to embark on this new, long-term, and sustainable partnership with the Nepalese Society!
